Week 3 of Digital Communications

This week at school we were learning about the Elements of Design- the basic building blocks of visual art. The designer/artist uses one or several of them together to communicate their idea. Used effectively they not only create something visually appealing, but they can also make the viewer FEEL something.

The Elements of Design are:

  • line

  • form

  • shape

  • tone

  • colour

  • space

  • texture

This week for homework I needed to:

  1. Complete the collage we began in class using Adobe Photoshop.

  2. Write up notes on how collage was made in Adobe Photoshop.

  3. Select at least 3 images which demonstrate some of the Elements of Design and bring them to class to share next week.

  4. Download and try out Adobe Rush.

  5. Catch up on homework from last week.

  6. Update my website with homework and class work from this week.

  1. Finished collage

With this collage I wanted to show how destructive humanity is in our eternal search for money and resources.

I used 2x images for the background, one of a forest and one of an industrial landscape. The monster in the foreground is No-Face from the Miyazaki film Spirited away. In this scene of the movie No-Face has gone on a rampage and is eating everyone’s, which I thought was a great representation of humanity. I swapped out the face of No-Face with that of the Monopoly Man. I was trying to think of whose face could possibly represent humanity itself and even tried some others on. In the end I chose the Monopoly Man As he is a well known figure who represents capitalism. I was pretty pleased with this image overall, but I still feel like the Monopoly Man face doesn’t quite fit with No-Face’s body.

Image credits will be on the References page.
